Kevin M. Roberts' Hardware series—in focusing on common construction tools and materials—draws inspiration from Pablo Neruda’s Odes to Common Things.
The oil paintings' close-up perspectives and vibrant colors highlight each tool’s elegant, oft-overlooked form. Each carefully arranged composition is distilled to its essence and rebuilt with dramatic character.
Stylistically, Roberts' work is influenced by painter Edward Hopper and architectural photographer Julius Shulman.
